Costly errors in the late half of the ballgame proved to be too much for Hampton’s softball team following a blast of winter weather that hit the area in the early part of the week.
Playing at home, the Lady Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead and traded hits with Mitchell County — but eventually came out on the losing end of a 11-4 contest on Thursday.
Hampton would hold Mitchell County to no hits to start off the game. The Lady Mountaineers would put two aboard with one one out, but a double play from Katie Burchett to Taylor Berry would leave ladies in blue unscatched.
HHS got on the board early following a first-inning MCHS error. Leadoff batter Cameron Calderon advanced from third base to home on a Haylee Sloan base hit.
