Lady Buffs get defensive, win

By

A good first half of three-point shooting enabled Milligan College to build a lead that a great defensive effort made stand up in the second half, as the Lady Buffaloes grounded the Reinhardt Eagles 54-39 at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
Milligan remained unbeaten in Appalachian Athletic Conference play at 4-0 and stand 11-5 overall. The Lady Buffs forced 26 Reinhardt turnovers that led to transition buckets or free throws.
The Buffs (4-0 AAC, 11-5 overall) connected on five long-range shots in the first half, with senior guard Johneshia Good hitting three of seven for a first-half total of nine points — and Milligan reached the break with a 31-16 lead.
It was not all great news for Milligan, however, as the Buffs shot just 8-for-16 from the charity stripe — which left several points on the court in the first half.
“We didn’t shoot very well from the free-throw line,” said Lady Buffs head coach Rich Aubrey. “In the first half we made enough threes, but in the second half missed some shots in the paint that we would like to have over. But we were able to rely on defense.
“It’s nice to be able to hang your hat on defense and rebounding. On some nights it goes in, which makes life easier.”
