Spencer Nave no doubt is taking his basketball skills to another level.
The recent Unaka graduate signed on Friday to play collegiately at NCAA Division II King University in Bristol. The Tornado, coached by legendary George Pitts, qualified for the national tournament in 2012.
That was the first NCAA season for the Tornado, which moved up from NAIA.
“They’ve done really well, and they’ve got a lot of kids back,” Nave said. “I think they only graduated a couple, and I’m glad to be a part of the program.”
Nave averaged 14 points, four assists and 3.5 steals as a senior. The steady point guard guided the Rangers to the Region 1-A semifinals.
“From day one, he got better as he came in as a freshman,” Unaka coach Aaron Dugger said. “Each year, his role changed. So not only was his skill level getting better, but he was having to adapt to a different role each year.
