What was intended to be a happy family dinner for the Canters ended in frustration when they said an employee at an Elizabethton restaurant would not allow their son’s service dog to enter the building.
Peggy and Joey Canter were trying to take their son Gage, 9, and his medical service dog Gracie to the Elizabethton Kentucky Fried Chicken for an afternoon meal on Friday. However, Peggy said they were met at the front door by one of the restaurant’s managers, who told them the dog could not come in, despite the fact the dog was wearing a therapy dog vest and a miniaturized copy of her certification.
“We had come through one set of doors and were getting ready to come in through the second set, and she was waiting on us,” she said. “She said the dog can’t come in. Gracie was wearing her vest. She could clearly see Gracie was a service dog.”
