Kevin Walter McKinney, 44, of 444 Shell Creek Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the residence of his father-in-law.
Kevin was a native of Carter County and the son of Walter and Carolyn Laws McKinney of Roan Mountain.
Mr. McKinney was a member of Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church and a 1987 graduate of Cloudland High School. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Tennessee Vols, Atlanta Braves and Dale Earnhardt. He loved the Washington Redskins and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Sheila McKinney, of the home; one son, Curtis McKinney of Johnson City; one daughter, Kelsie McKinney of Elizabethton; one stepson, Landon Duncan of Roan Mountain; one stepdaughter, Andrea Blackwell of Hampton; two grandchildren, Kollbey McKinney of Johnson City and Hayden Richardson of Elizabethton; two stepgrandchildren, Mason Blackwell and McKenzie Blackwell, both of Hampton; two brothers, Chris McKinney of Roan Mountain and Cody McKinney of Elk Park, N.C.; and two sisters, Tammie Jones of Elizabethton and Amanda Strickland of Elk Park, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. McKinney will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 22, at Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Gwyn and Brother Jeff McKinney officiating. The family will receive friends in the church chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence of his father and mother at anytime. The graveside service will follow in the Richardson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family members. Honorary pallbearer will be Tony Perry.
