As the high school football teams gear up for fall practice, the junior high squads are currently trying to made preparations as well.
Three returning coaches and three newcomers will be roaming the sidelines for our five Carter County Schools, plus Johnson County.
T.A. Dugger, Cloudland and Unaka will all have new coaches. Daniel Arnett (Hampton), Caleb Moore (Happy Valley) and Matt Bray (Mountain City) are the returnees.
Johnny Burleson takes over at T.A. Dugger for Travis Smithdeal, who will remain on the staff as an assistant coach. The Junior Cyclones are currently conditioning, getting ready for next week’s opening practice.
“TSSAA changed the rules, so we can actually go the first Monday on the week of August 1,” said Burleson. “We do shoulder pads and helmets for three days, then we’ll get started in pads. I’m excited about this team and I’ve got a good staff of assistant coaches helping me.”
