BLOUNTVILLE — Happy Valley fell short of its quest to win the Area 1-AA tournament title Thursday night at Sullivan Central, but the news was good for two other Carter County teams.
The Happy Valley girls and Hampton boys punched their tickets to the East Tennessee Sectional Saturday while the middle school Warriors already had a spot saved.
Bluff City used six free throws down the stretch to hold off Happy Valley 47-39 in the boys’ title game. A couple of free throws and a clutch three-pointer in the final 90 seconds enabled Hampton to slip past Holston 37-35 in the boys’ consolation game.
The Lady Jr. Warriors hit a shot at the buzzer to slip past Blountville 29-28.
All three teams, along with Little Milligan and T.A. Dugger’s boys, will from a convoy to Pigeon Forge on Saturday to play in their first-round games. The Lady Jr. Cyclones will play Monday.
