A hefty “Herd” of talented eighth graders are making some noise on the gridiron in Mountain City. Johnson County’s Jr. Longhorns ran their record to 4-0 with a 42-6 win over Cloudland on Thursday night at Paul McEwen Stadium.

They scored on the opening kickoff and never looked back against a young team of Highlanders who didn’t quit.

“Our kids looked good and they didn’t slack off,” said head coach Matt Bray about his Longhorns. “Cloudland had a young team, but those kids are tough mountain boys. You have to tip your hat to them because they played hard and didn’t quit. They’ve got a very good coaching staff who’ll get them where they need to be. Football runs in cycles. That could be us next year or the year after.”

AFTON — The Junior High Bulldogs enjoyed their bus ride home from Afton after knocking off Chuckey-Doak 24-14 at the Black Hole.

Hampton played well according to head coach Daniel Arnett, who singled out his offensive line.
