Jr. Highlanders too much for Unaka

2:40 am | October 4, 2013

Two big plays were the major difference on Thursday evening at Goddard Field as Unaka celebrated its middle school homecoming against conference rival Cloudland.

Junior Highlanders quarterback Malachai Benfield hit Josh Blair with two scoring throws, and Cloudland blanked the Rangers 18-0 for its first win of the season.

Both teams came into the contest in need of a victory, but the ’Landers struck first with a scoring drive that began at their own 8-yard line and was capped off on a fourth-and-11 situation — with Benfield finding Blair down the visitor’s sideline for a 34-yard scoring toss to give Cloudland a 6-0 lead.
