Johnson County playing catch-up on games

MOUNTAIN CITY — More than anyone in the area, Johnson County’s baseball team is ready for the wintery weather conditions to politely make its seasonal exit.
“As a baseball player and a coach, you want to get out there on the field,” Longhorn coach Pete Pavusek said Thursday. “It’s hard for the boys and coaching staff when you practice, practice, practice and you look forward to a game and it’s rained out or snowed out or too cold.
“It’s a rhythm thing and it’s repetition and you want to be out there on the field. That’s the only way you’re going to get better.”
Before Friday’s 13-0 shutout of Cloudland, the Longhorns had seen action only twice this season: A 10-3 win over Patrick Henry and a 2-1 loss to University High. The team has had nine games cancelled or postponed to this point.
