A Carter County man was arrested Tuesday evening after Johnson City police said he forged a marriage certificate to visit an inmate at the city’s detention facility.

Robert S. Hicks, 32, 2134 Gap Creek Road, was charged with criminal simulation after the May 14 incident, according to a Johnson City Police Department press release.

It is not immediately apparent which prisoner Hicks used the fake document to visit or why.

He is currently being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.

Hicks is scheduled to appear in Washington County General Sessions Court Wednesday to answer to the charges.
