It’s Good! Senior guard leads Lady Buffs to AAC rout
5:12 am | January 24, 2013Senior point guard Johnesia Good scored a career high 32 points — shattering her previous high of 24 — as Milligan College remained in sole possession of first place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with a 63-54 victory over Virginia Intermont at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.
Good’s record setting night saw her hit six-for-12 from the floor, including five-for-seven from beyond the three-point arc and 15-of-16 from the charity stripe.
“It’s a team game and my teammates got me the ball,” Good said. “When I was open I took the shot. We worked hard on defense to get good shots and I just tried to put them in when I had it.”
Milligan (16-7 overall, 9-1 AAC) survived a pair of runs by the Lady Cobras that either threatened the Lady Buffaloes lead or overtook it.
In the first half VI went on a 10-0 run to take a 15-14 lead midway through the first half with guard Coco Hull scoring half of those points off the bench.
In the second half the Cobras – led by sophomore post Rainey Storey – went on a 13-0 roll to pull to within 47-46 with under seven minutes remaining in regulation.
Each time the Cobras (9-13, 4-6) mounted a charge however, Good was there to snatch the momentum back for Milligan as she knocked down a triple to make it a 50-46 Milligan lead with 5:12 left in the second half.
