Israel Goudy indicted in 2011 death of Biltmore man

A man who police say stabbed himself in an attempt to cover up a murder at a home in the Biltmore community was indicted by a Carter County grand jury Thursday, more than a year after the incident.

Israel Benjamin Goudy, 32, was charged with the second-degree murder of Larry Wayne Whitaker, who was found by police, shot to death in front of his 257 Reynolds Road home on Oct. 17, 2011.

Carter County Sheriff’s Department investigators allege Goudy superficially cut his own leg and left side to make the incident look like a case of self-defense, and that Whitaker’s autopsy revealed that the gunshot wounds did not corroborate Goudy’s story of what transpired between the two men.
