Helicopters in need of service and repair could soon be cleared for landing after the Elizabethton Regional Planning Commission recommended City Council give approval for USA Helicopters Inc. to operate a private helipad at its location in the Cherokee Industrial Park.
USA Helicopters Inc. has operated in Elizabethton full-time since June, and has been in business since 2006. Before moving to Elizabethton full-time, the business operated in both Florida and East Tennessee. The business offers helicopter service, repairs, restorations, salvage and parts and helicopter sales.
President and CEO Mike Jolly presented the request for the helipad at the business so clients bringing their helicopters to the business could land, and the employees would have an space to work on the helicopters and test the repairs.
Jolly said there was enough space behind the building at 311 Cherokee Park Drive to house the helipad. He said the flights would only be coming into the business from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Frida,y and that work would only be done on smaller helicopters. He said the company expects an average of two or three helicopters to arrive at the business each month.
