Improvements being made to Mill Race

A project is under way in Riverside Park to make changes to the Mill Race that will bring improvements to the aquatic ecosystem and wildlife that call the stream home.

The project is being completed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. Director of Planning Jon Hartman explained the construction was a project to alleviate some of the damage done to the local environment by the Gap Creek Road project.

“Because of the potential damage to wildlife because of the Gap Creek construction, TDEC requires this project to mitigate that,” Hartman said.
