Sources have confirmed that the Hometown IGA in Betsytowne Shopping Center off of Highway 19 will be closing on Dec. 22. This will mark the third time in eight years that a grocery store will have closed its doors in this building.

Store employees and a corporate source confirmed that the store will be closing its doors three days before Christmas.

The closing will mark the third time in eight years that a grocery chain will take its sign down from the building’s marquee.

When asked why the grocery was closing, store employees referred Star staff to their regional manager, wh

o could not be reached for comment.

IGA’s departure will not only be a surprise to its patrons, but to city and county officials as well. Tom Anderson, president of Carter County Tomorrow, said that he had no knowledge of the store closing.
