BAILEYTON — Tyler Carrier gave Unaka a glimmer of hope. Tyler Bailey took it away.
The Rangers fought from a 3-0 deficit with Carrier’s pinch hit, two-run double in the top of the seventh inning.
Conference rival North Greene inserted its ace and played the role of spoiler as they fended off Unaka 3-2 for the Region 1-A Championship.
“Late in the game we were down 3-0 and the boys could’ve crumbled and given up,” said Unaka coach Tee Blevins. “They strung some hits together and had the tying run on third with one out, the go-ahead run on first with two outs. We had our opportunities and fought to get us back in that position.”
The Rangers left six runners on base in the game, four in scoring position, in what could have been a different story if not for two base-running miscues and defensive plays from the Huskies.
