JOHNSON CITY — The Bobby Hughes Classic National Boxing Championships began on Thursday evening, and a pair of Carter County fighters recorded victories at Legion Street Recreation Center.
Crafty left-hander Jake Robbins prevailed by unanimous decision over Ontario’s Tanvir Kahlon in the night’s final bout. Earlier on the card, Gabe Nickols edged Thomas Deck of Richmond (Ky.) on a split decision.
Meanwhile, in his ring debut, Ashton Hardin dropped a split decision to Baltimore’s Ishan Delson.
In the 65-pound weight class, Nickols came on late to win 3-2.
