Cloudland’s basketball team was beyond tenacious.
The Highlanders showed no mercy on Friday night, routing University High 81-54 in Watauga Valley Conference action at Sonny Smith Gymnasium. Cloudland made 20 steals.
“We got after it a little bit on defense, and forced a lot of turnovers,” Cloudland coach Brandon Carpenter said. “We scored on some of them. I’m a little bit disappointed that we didn’t capitalize on more of them to be honest.

Brooke Rhodes controlled the glass, and the Lady Highlanders pounded UH.
The senior center hauled in 21 rebounds. She also scored 16 points, blocked three shots and came up with four steals.
“Big night, as far as defensively, for her,” Cloudland coach Matt Birchfield said. “She’s got to get you going. You can get in your transition when you’ve got a kid that really rebounds well, and gets us kind of going a little bit in our fast-paced game.
