On a day where the Region I-A/AA boys and girls golf tournament went “South,” Hampton golfer Michaela Matheson made sure she’ll be heading west on I-40 next week as the lone Carter County representative in the TSSAA state tournament.

Matheson finished one stoke behind winner Taylor White of South and her Lady Rebel teammate Allyson Dunn and Grainger’s Kristen Ankrom, but still moves on to the state tournament in Manchester.

Team wise, the Sullivan South boys won the region title with a 290, taking a 30-stroke victory over Cumberland Gap. In girls, South was a 10-stroke winner over Grainger with Hampton taking third propelled by Hannah Irick’s 90 and Kaitlin Irick with a 93.
