The capacity crowds that once filled Hampton and Happy Valley’s gymnasiums are now absent. So are the school’s legendary coaches, but not the rivalry.
Hampton outslugged Happy Valley 64-54 on Friday night in a spirted affair that had fans boiling at Bayless Gym, especially the maroon-clad ones.
The Bulldogs built a 36-23 halftime lead and shot 17-of-23 from the foul line in that span.
A 12-1 foul differential to start the game didn’t sit well with Happy Valley — and neither did the two technical fouls whistled. One came at the end of the quarter because a Warrior player rolled the ball away from the official after the horn sounded.
The ’Dogs led after one 21-8.
