Hammons spearheads All-Carter/Johnson team

While Elizabethton grabbed half of the first-team spots on this year’s All-Carter/Johnson County squad, player-of-the-year honors belong to Johnson County’s Judd Hammons — the first time ever that a Longhorn has earned that award.
Hammons is at shortstop in an infield made up for three Cyclones and one Happy Valley Warrior.
Hammons beat out Unaka’s Danny Bales and Happy Valley’s Colton Haun with his impressive offensive and defensive numbers. The Cyclones did lay claim to the awards for most promising underclassman (Dylan Richardson) and coach of the year (Joe Nix).
In all, 25 players were selected — 14 on the first team and 11 on the second one.
’Betsy’s 28-12 overall mark and a trip to the state tournament was enough for them to place seven players on the first team. A trio of Rangers were tabbed, with Johnson County landing two spots. Happy Valley and Hampton gathered one apiece.
