Amanda Berry, one of three young women whose escape from a Cleveland, Ohio, home has dominated today’s headlines, has ties to Carter County, including grandparents.
Berry’s grandmother, Fern Gentry, spoke to her granddaughter on the phone for the first time in 10 years Tuesday at 10:20 a.m. Gentry said she went through a flood of emotions after hearing that Berry had been found and was safe.
“I was happy, and I was mad,” Gentry said. “I was mad that it had ever happened to her to begin with. I was happy because it was over. I am so glad that it is over, and that we know where she is, that she is OK. It was so hard not knowing all these years.”
