Good Samaritan Ministries makes appeal for financial help during holiday season

To the editor:

I am writing to express the critical need Good Samaritan Ministries is currently facing to help those struggling in our community and surrounding communities.

Most people may be familiar with Good Samaritan Ministries, having been established as a faith-based ministry in 1985 and serving the counties of Unicoi, Sullivan, Johnson, Greene, Washington and Carter.

What most people may not realize is that last year, alone, we served over 160,000 of our neighbors and that need is getting greater. That need is going to triple in the coming weeks as the holidays quickly approach.

With the state of the economy and as countless other non-profits are experiencing, the donations that we count on to live our mission of helping the poor, sick and destitute are nearly non-existent. We are at a critical time at Good Samaritan Ministries and we need the help of our community members. We need Good Samaritans to help us help those who need us.

We all have a daily choice to be a Good Samaritan. I ask that you please make that choice and help us fulfill our mission of helping those less fortunate. There is no time like the present to make a donation in honor or in memory of someone and we will gladly send an acknowledgement. Donations can be sent to: Good Samaritan Ministries, P.O. Box 2441, Johnson City, TN 37605-2441.

There are so many wonderful things that Good Samaritan Ministries does and I would be happy to come speak to your church or civic group to explain where the donations are going and how they are making a difference in the lives we help.

Thank you for being a Good Samaritan.
