How about 10,000?

Carter County readers looking for good deals on reading material might want to head to the Elizabethton American Legion building this weekend for the Friends of the Library spring book sale.

Despite prices of $1 for hardbacks and 50 cents for paperbacks, the sale is a major fundraiser for the group.

This is the first of two sales the group will host this year: the sales, conducted in the spring and fall, have been held for more than 14 years and help cover extra costs not in the budget for the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library.

What have those 50-cent and $1 prices helped provide?

Try this: Library equipment, the tile flooring around the information desk, holiday decorations for the library, a rug for the children’s reading room, the ramp for the back entrance to the library, landscaping, a children’s computer station, children’s furniture, shelving and book bags for the Eli’s BRAY program, which takes books from the library into county and city schools.
