MOUNTAIN CITY — With standout point guard Morgan Depew out for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury one week ago, the eighth-ranked Lady Cyclones were looking for someone to help fill the senior’s void.
Freshman Kelci Marosites was ready for the assignment.
Marosites swung a four-point game with a pair of third-quarter treys and hit two more during her nine-point fourth, finishing with a game-high 22 as Elizabethton outlasted the Lady Longhorns 62-52 in Three Rivers Conference action Friday at Shoun Gymnasium.
“We’re in a situation right now where we’ve got to be the epitomy of team,” said Elizabethton coach Len Dugger, whose team improves to 15-3 on the year with a perfect 5-0 slate in league play. “Everybody’s got to come in and make a contribution. I realized tonight, Kelci came in and scored well. Those three’s she made towards the end (of the third) gave us a little bit of a comfort zone going into the fourth quarter.
