Former Unaka coach Ensor receives new state championship ring

When the home of Donald Ensor was lost to a fire earlier in the fall, departed were all physical memories from the 2004 state basketball champion team he coached.

Those Rangers from a decade ago rallied around their coach.

Back on his finger is the championship ring. It was presented to the coach between the girls’ and boys’ games earlier this week against arch-rival University High at Ronnie L. Snavely Gymnasium.

“I was totally shocked,” Ensor said on Thursday. “I wasn’t thinking anything like that was going on. I saw some of the guys at the UH game, but that is normal. People usually put that game on their calendar.
“They may not come to five games all year, but they’ll be at that one. But what they did, what they had to get done, I don’t know what to say.”
