Flooding, freezing rain cover Tenn.

NASHVILLE (AP) — Freezing rain is falling in the western part of Tennessee while flooding hits eastern locations.

The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning for southern counties of West Tennessee for Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Forecasters say significant ice accumulation is possible, especially in counties along and south of Interstate 40 between the Mississippi and Tennessee rivers.

The remainder of West Tennessee and all of Middle Tennessee, including the Cumberland Plateau, is under a winter weather advisory for Tuesday morning into Wednesday. Freezing rain is expected, perhaps turning to a cold rain later Tuesday.

The Tennessee River Valley from Chattanooga to north of Knoxville is under a flood watch. A Red Cross shelter has been opened in Townsend after reports of several roads flooded in Blount County.
