A fire early Friday morning gutted the interior of a home at 120 Williams St. and displace four of its residents. A West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department official said the cause is still under investigation.

West Carter County volunteer firefighter Lt. Robert Cochran said the house at 120 Williams St., was fully engulfed in flame when trucks arrived on scene at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The intense flames destroyed the interior of the house and leaped to a nearby garage before the firefighters were able to get it under control.

“When we got there, we stretched the lines out and the guys went to the back,” Cochran said. “It’s a good thing they did, because right then the fire flashed over, and somebody would have been injured if they were standing there.”
