Fire claims life of Carter County woman9:39 am | April 29, 2013
Authorities are still investigating the cause of a mobile home fire that claimed the life of a local woman.
After battling the blaze for more than four hours, firefighters discovered the body of Judy Davis, 67, inside her mobile home at 108 Joshua Lane.
According to Sheriff Chris Mathes, whose office is handling the case, Davis might have died of asphyxiation. He added, however, that the investigation is in its very early stages.
“It looks like she may have succumbed to smoke inhalation,” Mathes said. “But it’s all speculation at this point.”
In addition to the cause of death, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
According to West Carter County Fire Department Chief Conley Jones, whose team responded to the fire at 2:18 a.m. Saturday, the fire may have started in the rear of the mobile home, but he was unable to say why.
“We don’t know what started the fire,” Jones said. “The back porch looks like where it started, because there was nothing left of it.”
