Final three: City manager finalist withdraws name

The field of potential candidates for Elizabethton’s city manager has been narrowed to three after Jeffrey Morse withdrew his name from consideration for the position.

Elizabethton Mayor Curt Alexander said he was contacted by Morse, who said he wanted to withdraw from the race for city manager. Alexander said Morse had just learned his daughter was expecting a child and felt it was best to stay at his current job as town manager in Valdese, N.C.

“He felt it was the right thing to do to stay in North Carolina,” Alexander said. “He is doing a good job there and thought it was best to stay.”

With Morse’s withdrawal from consideration, Elizabethton’s City Council has just one more candidate to interview before making a decision on who will fill the city’s top position.
