After weeks of planning and discussion, members of Carter County’s health community are ready to host the second Family Fun Fitness Day on Aug. 17.
The event, which was conceived by Coordinated School Health Coordinator Beth Bare, is designed to give families an opportunity to see what sort of family-oriented physical activities the region has to offer.
“We want to show that you can be active in the county as a family,” Bare said.
Before last year’s event, Bare and others in the health community had wanted to host an event to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of the new school year.
“Last year, when we were meeting, we were looking to have a back-to-school event,” Bare said. “We were talking about Sycamore Shoals State Park and what a great space they have there for the trail, and not many families take advantage of that. We wanted to get a way for families to get out there and use that trail and the pool, and ways to be active.”
Like last year, families who both get active and take advantage of the park’s trail will be rewarded.
