ETSU coaches take optimistic tone

Two weeks into their practice schedules, early season excitement has taken hold of East Tennessee State’s men’s and women’s basketball programs.

For a pair of programs that stumbled one season ago, new faces and a fresh start has helped breathe new life into the teams two weeks into their preseason practices and given their coaches reason to be optimistic.

Both men’s coach Murry Bartow and new women’s head coach Brittany Ezell met with local civic and business leaders during the Chamber of Commerce After Hours with ETSU Thursday at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s. They expressed a positive outlook on how their respective teams are coming together for their final seasons as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

For the Lady Bucs, it’s an excitement factor as Ezell and her staff mold a team that returns four starters and nine letterwinners from an 8-18 campaign, including preseason Atlantic Sun all-conference pick Destiny Mitchell, who led the team with 11.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game last year, and former Elizabethton standout Cara Bowling.
