A shot of “Brandi” was just what the Lady Rangers needed to get their first key win in Watauga Valley Conference play Thursday night.
Brandi Ensor dazzled a large home crowd with a 24-point, 14-rebound effort in Unaka’s 57-44 triumph over North Greene at Snavely Gym.
Eight of her points came in the first quarter, which saw the Rangers grab a 21-9 advantage. She added a dozen more in the final stanza, including 10 straight that prevented the Lady Huskies from getting back in it.
“We wanted to get Brandi the ball and see what she could do,” said Unaka coach Wes Wright. “She’s such a great athlete. We’ve tried to get her involved, but sometimes she gets frustrated. She battled hard, finished around and rim and didn’t have many misses. Credit Alicia Colbaugh for the great job she did at seeing the floor and beating their press. It was definitely a win that we had to have.”
