Elizabethton wins basketball pair over Chuckey-Doak

AFTON — Junior wing Tyler Nichols scored a game-high 24 points while senior guard Zeke Clark added 20 as the Elizabethton Cyclones opened their 2013-14 basketball season with a 70-52 victory over Chuckey-Doak.

The Cyclones and Black Knights were knotted at 27-27 at the break, but EHS came roaring out in the second half behind some stout defense and hot shooting from Nichols, who scored 10 third-quarter points.

Sophomore wings and “twin terrors” Kayla and Kelci Marosites set the pace for the Lady Cyclones with 21 and 19 points, respectively, as EHS dominated Chuckey-Doak. Kayla finished 7-for-13 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from distance, while Kelci connected on 5-of-13 shooting from the floor and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe.
