Elizabethton hits purple patch10:05 am | June 14, 2013
Carter County Relay For Life is inviting Carter County residents to “Paint the Town Purple” this week as part of a fundraiser and to show support for the fight against cancer.
A number of events are on the schedule for the upcoming week leading up to the annual Relay event, which will be held June 21 beginning at 6 p.m. at Elizabethton High School.
The week’s festivities will begin on Saturday when the Paint the Town Purple campaign will start and the Relay will host two fundraisers. Through Paint the Town Purple, which is being held June 15-22, Carter County residents and businesses can decorate their homes and businesses with purple ribbons, flags or other decorations to show their support for the Relay For Life.
Marcia Gordon, public relations volunteer for Carter County Relay, said bows could be purchased from Relay For Life for $20, or participants can use any purple decorations they already have. There will also be a contest among downtown businesses and homes for the best decorated home or store front.
“We want to see as many people participate as we can,” Gordon said. “People can decorate the front of their homes, tie a ribbon to their mailbox or front door, or decorate their business. Even if they don’t buy the bow from us, they can decorate their homes with their own purple items to show their support.”
Bows can be bought at the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce or by calling Relay For Life Chair Kristi Smith at 725-5189.
