EHS sociology class goes ‘Wandell strong’10:00 am | October 10, 2013
“There’s strong and then there’s Wandell strong.”
The public will see both feats of strength on display during the Night of the Living Dead weightlifting competition this Saturday.
Students in Alex Campbell’s sociology class will be selling T-shirts they designed during the competition to raise money to benefit East Side Elementary School Principal Josh Wandell as he continues treatments for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The class had been studying media and the effects advertising has on people’s purchasing habits. Campbell decided to expand the lesson by have the students promote and market their own fundraising idea.
“We’ve been studying the media and how people decide what to buy,” said student JP Mitra.
The group brainstormed ideas and decided to sell T-shirts through pre-orders and at the Night of the Living Dead weightlifting competition this Saturday. The class used a shirt design website to order and print the shirts for the fundraiser.
The class started thinking of ideas for the logo to go on the shirt along with the phrase “There’s strong and then there’s Wandell strong.” Eventually, the group agreed on a design by Rebecca Jenkins.
