East Tennessee Amateur moving to after July 4 holiday

For the first time since its inception in 1995, the gem of Elizabethton Golf Course will follow the Fourth of July.
With a four-day weekend as its backdrop, the 19th edition of the Carter County Bank East Tennessee Amateur may be the biggest yet.
Running from July 5-7, the event deemed the most prestigious amateur event in Northeast Tennessee is slated for its largest field yet.
“This is the first time since I’ve been running it that the tournament has fell after the fourth,” said tournament director Mike Matheson. “I look for us to have a really good crowd, having a long weekend.
“I want to thank Carter County Bank. I’ve had two or three people call me within the last week wanting to sponsor this tournament and I said, ‘No, one is all we need.’”
