Last-minute voters filed into the Carter County Courthouse Thursday for the final day of early voting, but officials say fewer participated this year than in the 2008 presidential election.
Early voting ended at 4 p.m., but those standing in line at that time were permitted to cast their vote. Carter County resident Kathy Whittemore was the last in line at closing time.
“I voted early to miss the rush,” Whittemore said.
She said last year was the first time she had early voted, and she decided to vote on Thursday to miss Election Day crowds next week.
