E-Twins succumb to BriSox

A hot pitcher and a forgettable first inning set the stage for a 4-2 Elizabethton defeat at the hands of the Bristol Sox on Friday night at Joe O’Brien Field in Appalachian League action.
Kelvis Valerio, a 21-year-old right hander from Santiago Rodriguez, Dominican Republic, was in command from the get-go — allowing one E-Twins hit over six innings while striking out eight and walking just one.
“He was outstanding, wasn’t he?” queried Sox manager Mike Gellinger. “He threw a lot of strikes and got ahead of guys. That’s no secret in baseball that’s what you need from your pitcher.”
The forgettable inning was the top of the first when the Sox tallied three runs, with two of those coming in on a bases-loaded error by Twins starting pitcher Josh Burris.

With Kelvin Ortiz going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, the Twins won the rubber match of this season-opening series.
