E-Twins open season with 3-0 shutout3:00 am | June 21, 2013
Elizabethton brought its best arms. Bristol couldn’t buy a run.
Led by a strong relief effort from Tim Shibuya, Dallas Gallant and Luis Nunez, the Twins weathered a 75-minute rain delay with a combined shutout, opening the Appy League season with a 3-0 win over the White Sox at Joe O’Brien Field.
“We didn’t really square too many balls up tonight, but it was a very well-played game for the first game of the season,” said Twins manager Ray Smith. “Neither team really swung the bat well. We had to get the first game out of the way with all of the stuff going on.”
After a solid 1.2-inning start from 19-year old Felix Jorge, who struck out three, rain set upon Riverside Park and prompted the lengthy delay.
