DUI charge lodged against man on mower

A man driving a lawnmower along Highway 19E in Hampton has been arrested on a DUI charge.

Carter County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Nick Andes said at approximately 8:08 p.m. Monday he observed a white male on a black lawnmower traveling north on the southbound side of Highway 19E in Hampton. “This appeared very abnormal to me,” Andes said in a report.

The deputy said the subject drove the lawnmower across Gap Creek Road through heavy traffic and was almost struck by a vehicle. The officer then stopped the lawnmower at the intersection of 19E and Gap Creek Road.
