Donations sought for emergency vet bill for rescued dog

By

The Carter County Humane Society and the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter are collecting donations to help pay for medical care for an injured dog found over the weekend.

Okay, a shepherd mix, was rescued after being hit by a car. He needs a surgery to amputate his leg and save his life.

ECCAS Director April Jones said animal control officers picked up a male shepherd mix dog near Okolona Road that had been hit by a car. The dog, which has been named Okay, suffered a shattered tibia, or lower leg bone.

Okay was taken to Robinson Animal Hospital for treatment. Jones said a vet at the hospital explained the dog would be a good candidate for a leg amputation to save his life. Okay was scheduled to have surgery Monday morning. The cost of the surgery is expected to be around $400.
