Can you believe it’s only three months until Christmas? But, the official kick-off to the holiday season is even closer — Nov. 13, when the Fraser fir will be lighted.

A dollar will buy a bulb for the Fraser fir, which for the past 23 years has served as Elizabethton’s Community Christmas Tree. This week, a total of $345 has been received for the Buy A Bulb Fund. The lighting of the Fraser fir is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 13, which means time is growing short to receive donations and rewire the tree.
That leaves only about six weeks to raise the funds to buy new lights and wiring for the grand old Christmas tree, which stands at the east end of Elk Avenue in front of the Carter County U-T Extension Office.
Extension Agent Keith Hart said $3,000 is needed to replace the wiring and buy new LED lights for the tree.
