Doe Valley brings heavy lumber in beating Chargers

By

In the only game on tap at Carter County American Little League’s Jim Ensor Field on Friday night — due to a forfeit by Big John’s in the scheduled opener — Doe Valley rapped out 13 hits and scored a 13-1 win over the Chargers in four innings.

Doe Valley started hot and remained so through this contest, scoring three runs in the top of the first frame with Holston Howard’s two run inside-the-park home run the big blow in the inning.

Jaden Anderson led off against Chargers starter Cody Phillips with a double to right and came home when Howard’s shot hit the base of the fence in left and the speedy youngsters were around the bases like a flash.

Karson Dillard followed with an infield hit and stole second. Dillard took third on a passed ball and scored on an RBI knock by Micah Nix to stake Doe Valley to a 3-0 early advantage.

The Chargers manufactured a run in their half of the frame as Phillips worked a free pass from Dillard, who got the start on the hill for Doe Valley. A wild pitch and a throwing error allowed Phillips to score to cut the lead to 3-1.

In the top of the second Doe Valley put this contest away with a 10- run outburst on eight hits, with three Charger miscues thrown in.

Noah Lambert had an RBI hit in the frame and Nix drove in two with a single to right. Lambert was two-for-three for the game and drove in two runs while Nix finished two-for-two and was hit by a pitch.

Ian Thompson drove in a pair of runs with a single and was two-for-two as the Doe Valley batters had their hitting shoes on in this contest. Anderson also had a run batted in as Doe Valley sent 15 hitters to the plate in the stanza.

Anderson finished 2-for-3 with a double and reached on an error in the fourth, but Howard was the hitting star on a team of hitting stars going 3-for-3 with a double and a home run and also reached on a walk.

For the Chargers, Phillips and Carter Everett had the only hits for that squad as Dillard struck out six. Phillips struck out four and walked two and reliever Darius Burgess struck out five Doe Valley hitters and walked none.
