JOHNSON CITY — One of the nation’s top pitchers didn’t think he was his sharpest on Thursday night, but it was certainly good enough to tame Jacksonville.
Kerry Doane, who leads NCAA Division I in complete games and innings pitched, hurled his 11th complete outing as East Tennessee State clipped the Dolphins 3-2 in A-Sun baseball action at Thomas Stadium.
“It wasn’t the easiest game I’ve pitched,” Doane said. “It was a little tougher than a couple I’ve pitched. It was just one of those nights.
“You can’t always have your best stuff, and they came out seeing the ball well. I can’t complain the way it ended. I’ll take it any day.”
