Despite changes, new animal shelter completion, funding remain on track10:57 am | September 5, 2013
With the dedication date for the new Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter “tentatively” set, county officials discussed the specifics behind the construction of the new facility and some of the changes encountered along the way.
On Wednesday morning, during a meeting of the county’s Financial Management Committee, County Mayor Leon Humphrey pointed out that, though there are still alterations to be made in the construction process, the city and county are still within their operating budget.
“There are a few change orders that are in process now,” Humphrey said. “Even with all the changes that have been incorporated, we’re still well within the amount of money that’s being held by the city.”
The city and county each invested $250,000 for the construction of the new shelter. Although the project costs have exceeded the proposed budget, Humphrey said that, through the efforts of some concerned citizens, additional funds have been raised to help offset those changes.
