A Carter County deputy says a jug of moonshine and a double-barrel shotgun were thrown from a vehicle he was pursuing on Halloween night.

Deputy Issac Rhea said he was patrolling the parking lot at Harmony Free Will Baptist Church on Rittertown Road Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.. when he observed a red Jeep traveling at a high rate of speed on the roadway. The deputy caught up to the vehicle and discovered the Jeep was traveling at 61 mph in a 35-mph zone. The officer said he attempted to stop the vehicle at Rittertown Road and Ralph Hathaway Road, but it continued toward Highway 19E.

Rhea pursued the vehicle across Highway 19E, then right onto Spring Street and left onto Main Street. The vehicle continued, Rhea said, right onto First Avenue and left on Second Avenue.
