Carter County Sheriff’s Department deputies said they located a man hiding in a basement shower with his two small children as the officers were searching for him on a violation of probation charge.

Joshua Pearce, 33, 128 Honeycutt St., Elizabethton, was taken into custody about 2 a.m. Monday at the man’s residence.

Sgt. Kenny Cornett and Deputy Nick Andes went to the Honeycutt Street residence to serve an outstanding arrest warrant on Pearce on the violation of probation charge. While attempting to make contact at the door, Andes said he observed the man on a bed in the basement. Cornett and Andes knocked on the door and announced their presence multiple times, Andes said in a report, but Pearce would not answer the door. Andes said he then went to the window, but the man had moved out of sight.
