More than 150 runners and walkers braved Wednesday evening’s heavy rain to participate in the inaugural Stars and Stripes 4-Mile
Run/Walk to benefit the Elizabethton/Carter County United Way.

The race had 188 registered participants for the event – 124 registered as runners and 64 registered as walkers. United Way Director Debbie Guy said almost all the registered racers came out to the race.

“Even though there was a downpour and the rain did not let up, almost everyone who registered came to the race,” Guy said. “There were around 30 people registered who did not make it out Wednesday night.”
